Dear Parents and Students,

As you prepare for the 2009-10 School Year, here is a list of school supplies you will need for Foreign Language  Classes. (French,German, Spanish)
  1. Textbook and workbook
  2. Compostion Book - labeled with student name, period and titled "Grammar Notes"
  3. Folder with pockets and brads - labeled with student name and period
  4. Loose leaf paper
  5. Blank CD
  6. Blue or Black pen
  7. Red pen
  8. Map pencils
  9. Spanish-English Dictionary (Recommended)

 

Spring Branch offers French, German, Spanish and Spanish for Native Speakers.

We are very pleased to be your teachers of Foreign Language at Spring Branch Middle School.  We offer a rigorous, challenging curriculum, and are focused on student-centered learning. The curriculum is a Credit for High School Course.  This means that at the end of two years of successfully studying the targeted language, the student will receive one credit of High School Foreign Language, and he or she will be eligible for Level Two of that language.

Our teaching techniques include, but are not limited to, cooperative and group activities, partnering, individual listening and reading comprehension activities, oral presentations and cultural studies. Students will be prepared for Level Two of the studied language.

Why Study German?

Why Study Spanish?

  • Today almost 500 million people in 21 countries speak Spanish.
  • Spanish is the second most used language in international communication.
  • The Hispanic population in the USA has grown by 60% in just one decade.  The 39 million Hispanics represent 12.5% of the total population.  This has increased demand for Spanish language media: radio, television, newspapers, magazines...
  • Latin America countries are showing strong economic growth, making them potentially major commerical partners.
  • Latin culture has had a global influence on architecture, art and literature.

  • French is spoken in 29 countries by 130 million people
  • French makes up almost 45% of your English
  • French improves your English vocabulary and grammar skills.
  • French will increase your salary and job opportunities. Over 200 companies with home offices in a French
  • speaking country employ people in Houston
  • The BIG F’s—food, fashion, films
  • Most culinary terms are French.
  • Fashion vocabulary & trends often start in Paris
  • Other than Hollywood, France produces more films viewed in other countries.
